Galvanized Guidepost Stanchion Kit

The Galvanized Guidepost Stanchion Kit fits 4in, 5in and 6 in. tall Galvanized cradle beams. Made from hot-dipped galvanized steel. Easy to install on preexisting boat cradle beams. Allows 2 in. ID PVC pipe to slide over the stanchiong

Includes all galvanized mounting fasteners.

Optional Capped White PVC Guidepost and Guidepost Bumpers are sold separately.

Kit Includes:

Galvanized guidepost stanchion
Galvanized guidepost stanchion backup plate
1/2 in. x (length varies) galvanized hex head bolt
1/2 in. galvanized steel split lock washer
1/2 in. galvanized steel nut

The amount of fasteners varies by kit size option.

Installation

The fastener bolts go through the stanchion mounting holes through the backplate and are secured with a lock washer and nut. The cradle beam being in the middle allows the stanchion to “clamp” tight onto the cradle beam.  Then use an optional guidepost to slide on top of the stanchion.

Galvanized Steel

Galvanized steel is created by dipping standard steel into molten zinc by a process called hot dipping. The layer of zinc serves as a protectant from corrosion. The protectant makes galvanized steel the best option for seawater environments. Galvanized steel typically has a rough surface and can vary in color. There is no uniform finish for this type of steel.

Galvanized steel is ideal for marine environments because of its protective layer over carbon steel. Stainless steel will react with salt water resulting in rust. The zinc layer on galvanized steel prevents this reaction.  A downfall for this defensive measure is that the protective layer can be corroded or fade over time. This is due to the zinc sacrificing itself to protect the base metal.
